This poor plant has been through a beating.
The first few years I received it, I practically killed it. I kept pulling off black leaves and did my best to help it recover. It was almost dead when I decided to try one last effort. Eventually I transplanted it to a larger pot, gave it fresh soil and changed the window it sat in. In the meantime, at least one of my cats began attacking it. It has several bite marks and some leaves completely shredded or pulled off.
I didn’t give up. I kept watering weekly, and started adding fertilizer.
Finally, a bloom began to rise over a period of several days, and as it did, it stood tall and proud raising its white flag as if in surrender. And while it did, it’s leaves seemed to lift up in praise. There may still be scars, but its peace lily shines above it all.
If you have taken a beating, don’t be discouraged. You may feel worn out and wounded, but there is always hope in Christ Jesus. Always. Despite all trauma and sorrow, or in the daily battle, we can rise above in peace. We can surrender with faith, trust and hope. And that peace will be beautiful to others who see it in you!
… he (The Spirit of the Lord God) has sent me (Christ Jesus) to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound….to comfort all who mourn….to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit…” Isaiah 61:1-3 (parts and explanations included)
